The Thankful Mama

Oceanside Pier Fishing

Early Saturday (July 18, 2009) morning at about 5:30 a.m., hubby and I were up and had already knocked back a big glass of fresh pressed vegetable juice. Why in the world were we up before the sun on our day off? Pier fishing! Hubby wasn’t quite as enthusiastic as myself about 5:30 a.m or vegetable juice, but we were ready to go at 6 a.m. and arrived at beautiful Oceanside Pier at 7 a.m. The beach is absolutely gorgeous at sunrise!

The sand is pristine, the breeze is gentle and the air is crisp and clean…ready for the day of beach-goers.
We found a decent spot along the expansive 1,942 ft. wooden pier. I got to enjoy the view and take pictures as the guys set up the equipment.

Ocean fishing is quite different from lake fishing, which is what I’m accustomed to. Different poles, hooks, weights, bait, etc., etc. It’s also a different feel as your line sits in the water. The incoming waves and swells push your line back and forth. It feels just like a fish is on the end of your line! You also have to watch to make sure your line isn’t drifting into the pier supports or worse, into another fisherman’s line. Ask me how I found out about that! 🙂Oceanside Beach Ocean Fishing

We fished for a few hours, without a bite. Very frustrating! We saw a fellow reeling in fish after fish, finally asking him what was he using. Turns out good ol’ red worms work for the ocean fish too. We had all kinds of fancy bait that was not doing the trick. We now know what are secret weapon for next fishing trip is!  It’s hard, though,  to feel disappointed in such a beautiful area and with the company three of the greatest guys I know, Hubby, my dad and my dad in law.  A fun day all around and even better, Hubby and I got to come home and take a wonderfully relaxing nap, ahhhhh!
